Vermonters Feeding Vermonters Day at the State House – 2/6

Hosted by the Vermont Foodbank
Thursday, February 6, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm

Join the Vermont Foodbank at the State House on Thursday, February 6 to show your support for funding Vermonters Feeding Vermonters (VFV), a program to purchase locally grown, fresh produce directly from Vermont farmers to distribute to people struggling with hunger. Vermonters Feeding Vermonters is one of the 12 issues on the Alliance’s 2020 Legislative Agenda.

Vermont Foodbank staff will be there to help you connect with your legislators and share your message of support.

Visit the Vermont Foodbank’s event page to learn more and register to attend. Learn more about Vermonters Feeding Vermonters on the Vermont Foodbank’s website and on the Alliance’s issue page

Update on Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance from the FaMLI Coalition

The House voted on the conference committee compromise version of H.107 on Thursday, with 89 voting to support the bill and 58 opposing.  Progressives and progressive Democrats stood against the bill, as it sets up further systems of inequity. The majority of Independents and Republicans voted against, as they support a program that is voluntary rather than mandatory. Having already passed the Senate, the bill was sent to the Governor on Tuesday.  He has until Saturday to sign it, let pass without a signature, or veto.  We are confident that he will veto the legislation.  It is uncertain at this point if a veto override vote will be successful, as it requires a 2/3 majority in both chambers.
