Pre - K Education Implementation Committee Meeting – 10/24

The Prekindergarten Education Implementation Committee was created by Act 76 to consider a number of issues including options for how to deliver prekindergarten services for four-year-olds, potential models for contracts, and differences in costs to deliver services to Pre-K and kindergarten students in the context of a full school day.

Alliance Equity Discussion – “Addressing Housing Inequities for Families with Young Children" – 10/27

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance has established a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up on Friday, October 27 at 1:00 pm.

The upcoming session will focus on the impact housing inequities have on young children, and the programs working to address housing insecurity for families in Vermont. The discussion will be led by Jess Hyman, Associate Director of Housing Advocacy Programs for the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO). CVOEO manages the HOME Family Housing Voucher Program and other initiatives designed to increase housing equity.

Farm to School and Early Childhood Capacity Building Grants – Apply by November 15

October is Farm to School and Early Childhood Month, which means the Vermont Agency of Food and Markets (VAAFM) has released its annual Farm to School and Early Childhood Capacity Building Grant opportunity. This grant combines grant funding ($5,000-$20,000 award range) with customized grant coaching, technical assistance, and professional development to build capacity for agriculture and food systems education at Vermont schools and early child programs. Schools, early childhood programs, and supervisory unions/school districts are encouraged to apply. The application deadline for the Farm to School and Early Childhood Capacity Building Grant is November 15.

The Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance is a statewide coalition formed in 2000 of early childhood professionals, parents, organizations, businesses, and strategic partners committed to improving public policies that impact young children between birth and age eight in the areas of health, safety, food security, economic security, and early care and education.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
