Taxing the Wealthiest Vermonters: A Discussion with Local Leaders – 10/30

The Fair Share for Vermont Campaign is hosting a conversation on October 30 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Barre Old Labor Hall (46 Granite St, Barre) that will focus on the need to increase taxes on the wealthiest Vermont residents. They’ll be discussing economic justice, the need for increased state revenue, and the path to a Vermont that works for everyone who lives here.

Alliance Monthly Equity Discussion – “VDH and Health Equity” – 11/1  

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance hosts a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom. Our next session is coming up on Friday, November 1, at 1:00 pm. 

The discussion will be led by Song Nguyen, Director of Health Equity and Sara Chesbrough, Health Equity Lead at the Family and Child Health Division of the VT Department of Health. Our discussion will highlight initiatives to enhance health equity practices within the Health Department, throughout partnering organizations, and within the Division to enhance the delivery of public health services with a health equity perspective.

SAG Opportunity – Information Session and Deadlines

The Child Development Division has announced that the next round of Special Accommodation Grant (SAG) applications are due this week. SAGs are available to Specialized Child Care Programs to support a child or children’s safe and successful inclusion within a child care program. Grant funds can be used to hire inclusion support staff, purchase specialized equipment or materials, and/or pay for inclusion-related training, coaching, or consultation.

SAG applications are due on the first Friday of each month. The next application deadline is this Friday, November 1, at 4:30 pm.  The full schedule of monthly application deadlines is available here.

BBF State Advisory Council Meeting – 11/4

The Building Bright Futures (BBF) State Advisory Council will be meeting virtually on Monday, November 4, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm.  Council members will be reviewing the draft 2025 Policy Recommendations of Vermont’s Early Childhood State Advisory Council Network and voting to endorse them.

The Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance is a statewide coalition formed in 2000 of early childhood professionals, parents, organizations, businesses, and strategic partners committed to improving public policies that impact young children between birth and age eight in the areas of health, safety, food security, economic security, and early care and education.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
