Alliance Monthly Equity Discussion – “Equity and the December Holidays” – 11/17

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance hosts a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up on Friday, November 17 at 1:00 pm.

This month’s session, “Equity and the December Holidays,” will be facilitated by Alliance Executive Director Matt Levin. The discussion will focus on how to bring a DEI lens to a consideration of how to interact with the December holiday season in various settings – government buildings, schools and educational settings, social service providers, etc.

BBF Act 76 Survey – Deadline 11/16

Act 76, Vermont’s landmark law relating to child care and early education, went into effect on June 20, 2023. The state Legislature and early childhood stakeholders joined together in support of this law to transform Vermont's early care and education system. 

Building Bright Futures (BBF) has been named the entity responsible for monitoring and accountability of Act 76, defining benchmarks and measures of success, and reporting back to the legislature annually on progress. 

BBF is asking the broader early childhood network to weigh in on what is most important to monitor. Fill out this two-question survey by Nov. 16 and submit the top questions you most want answered about the impact of the law.

 

Program Assessment Scheduling Open

The Child Development Division (CDD), VTAEYC, and Vermont Afterschool are facilitating an important new state initiative: the System for Program Access to Resources for Quality Supports, or SPARQS. 

Afterschool and early childhood education programs are now able to schedule program assessments that will inform a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) plan and are necessary for the STARS (STep Ahead Recognition System) application, as well as the SPARQs (System for Program Acess to Resources for Quality Supports) program.

While SPARQS and STARS are different and are administered by different agencies, the assessments are where they intersect. An assessment is an opportunity to learn about the new process without risk: as the CDD pilots the STARS revision (through June 30, 2024), participating programs will keep their same STARS level.

Vermont Afterschool also offers coaching and professional development to help afterschool programs develop their CQI plans based off of the assessments. More information can be found on their website.
