Child Care Reopening Plans

At a press conference on Friday, May 8, Governor Scott announced that child care centers may reopen on June 1. Updated guidance on reopening was released late yesterday, May 14. Centers that reopen must limit group gathering size to no more than 25. Centers that reopen will also need to comply with strict health and safety regulations.

The Child Care Stabilization and Essential Persons Financial Support Programs will end on Saturday, May 30. The Child Care Financial Assistance Program will move from enrollment-based payments back to attendance-based payments starting on May 31.

Resources on Child Care Reopening

The Vermont Department of Health, Agency of Education, and the Department for Children and Families released a detailed document outlining guidance on reopening. The Department of Health website for schools and child care programs contains updated guidance from the state, including information on how and where child care workers can get tested for COVID-19.

Building Bright Futures, in partnership with the Child Development Division and the Department of Health, released a recording of their May 8 webinar, Early Childhood Forum on the Reopening of Child Care.

Let’s Grow Kids has shared links to past COVID-19 related webinars on their website, including two from this week, Are You Ready? Reopening Your Child Care Business After COVID-19 and COVID-19 Guidance for Child Care Programs with Breena Holmes MD.
