Back to School Mental Health Resources

The beginning of the school year brings both excitement and stress. What can be a positive experience also creates potential challenges.

The United Way of Northwest Vermont's Mental Health Initiative has compiled a list of resources for parents, caregivers, educators, and students to help support wellness and mental health during this time of transition.

You can find the list in their recent newsletter.

VFN Seeking Support Parent Volunteers

Vermont Family Network (VFN) is seeking Support Parent volunteers. Becoming a Support Parent provides a unique opportunity to encourage a parent who is walking a similar path. Support Parents might mentor families navigating a new diagnosis, health care systems, surgery, mental health, behavioral issues, special education, sibling and family issues, community resources, and life transitions.

The Program includes a three-hour, interactive Zoom training that will give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to support other parents.

For more information and to fill out the online application, visit the VFN website.

Alliance Monthly Equity Discussion – “Using Data to Shape DEI-informed Policy and Programming”– 9/6

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance hosts a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom. Our next session is coming up on Friday, September 6, at 1:00 pm.

We will be talking about using data to shape DEI-informed policy and program implementation. The discussion will be led by Cynthia Greene, the Farm to Early Childhood Partnership Coordinator at Shelburne Farms. Cynthia is a long-time partner with many of us in the state's early childhood community, and will be talking about her work using data to help make grantmaking and service delivery more responsive to equity and inclusion issues in our communities. She will highlight the Farm to Early Childhood Coalition's recently updated CACFP Participation Map as an example and resource in this work.

Register on Zoom to receive the meeting link.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
