Free Parent Leadership Learning Opportunity – 8/24

The Building Bright Futures (BBF) Families and Communities Committee works to enrich and expand family partnership and leadership across the state. To support parent and caregiver leadership the Committee hosts free quarterly professional development opportunities. 

The next virtual session will be on August 24 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Hosted by Anna Howes Gebhardt, the session “Advocacy: Sharing Your Story to Create Change,” will focus on when, where, and why to advocate, and why your ideas matter.

Participating parents with children aged 8 and younger are eligible to receive payment for attending the training and childcare stipends are also available. To receive a stipend participants will have to submit a W-9 form to BBF to receive payment. There are no other requirements or commitments to receive the payment.

Alliance Equity Discussion – DEI Accountability: Define Before you Measure - 8/18 

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance hosts a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up on Friday, August 18, at 1:00 pm. 

This month’s session, “DEI Accountability: Define Before you Measure,” will be facilitated by Chad Simmons, the Policy and Engagement Specialist at the VT Housing Finance Agency and a former community consultant on DEI subjects. He will provide reflections, tools, and resources for how to bring accountability and measures to DEI efforts by first defining key goals and concepts.

Early Childhood Leadership Institute – Applications Due 9/1

The Snelling Center for Government is now accepting applications for their Early Childhood Leadership Institute (ECLI). 

ECLI was initiated in 2014 and seeks to stimulate enthusiasm for and effective participation in efforts to improve early childhood work in Vermont. In twelve seminar days over six months, participants gain leadership skills and a deeper knowledge and understanding of themselves as leaders and the science and landscape of early childhood issues in Vermont.

The application process is highly competitive, with up to twenty-five associates selected on the basis of their achievements, demonstrated interest in early childhood issues, and potential for leadership.

The ECLI Class of 2024 will begin its training in October of 2023. Most session days take place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with one overnight per session. Applications are due September 1, including a $25 application fee and two letters of recommendation.

Vermont Afterschool is Hiring

Vermont Afterschool is searching for a Youth Resilience Coordinator to lead an initiative designed to support interventions that increase protective factors for youth through trauma-informed and healing-centric practices, out-of-school time activities, family engagement, and community-led interventions. The position also includes leading Vermont Afterschool’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative to make third-space programs more accessible and equitable for all Vermont youth.
