Alliance Equity Discussion – “Decolonizing Fall Holidays” – 9/17

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance has established a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up this Friday, September 16 at 1:00 pm.

In the September session we will be discussing decolonizing history, especially surrounding Columbus Day and Thanksgiving. Origin myths are a powerful tool but obscure and distort the history of Indigenous people and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. The session will be facilitated by Melody Mackin. Melody is an educator, mom, and artist who works at the Atowi Project. She is a citizen of the Elnu Band. She has been an adjunct professor for 15 years and often lectures on a variety of topics, including Abenaki history, women’s issues, and Abenaki political history.

Email Taylor Hughey, Alliance Outreach Manager, at taylor@vecaa.org to register.
