Alliance Equity Discussion – “Decolonizing Fall Holidays” – 10/6

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance has established a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up on Friday, October 6 at 1:00 pm.

In the upcoming session we will be discussing decolonizing history, especially surrounding Columbus Day and Thanksgiving. Origin myths are a powerful tool but obscure and distort the history of Indigenous people and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. The discussion will be led by Jeff Benay, the Director of Indian Education Programs for Franklin County.

First Children’s Finance Trainings

First Children's Finance has announced their Child Care Business Technical Assistance Program Fall 2023 Training Calendar. These trainings are designed to help start, sustain, and grow a child care business and are available for Northern Lights professional development credit. These trainings are all offered “real time, on-line” and will not be recorded.

Act 76 Implementation – Updated Resources

The Child Development Division (CDD) has posted updated resources related to implementing Act 76, the 2023 Child Care and Early Childhood Education law that makes major investments in Vermont’s child care system and mandates policy changes impacting both early childhood and school-age settings. These resources are an Act 76 FAQ, a new memo providing guidance on program rates, and a new version of CDD’s Act 76 Status and Summary Chart.

The Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance is a statewide coalition formed in 2000 of early childhood professionals, parents, organizations, businesses, and strategic partners committed to improving public policies that impact young children between birth and age eight in the areas of health, safety, food security, economic security, and early care and education.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
